Product Description

Backlit Fabric Printing for Lightboxes & SEG Displays

Our premium 165gsm Backlit Polyester is specially designed for LED lightboxes, SEG displays and illuminated exhibition graphics, delivering vibrant colours and excellent light transmission when illuminated from behind.

Printed using a high-quality dye-sublimation process, the inks are infused into the fabric rather than simply sitting on the surface. This creates rich, vibrant colours and detailed graphics while producing a durable, scuff-resistant and washable finish.

Whether you're creating an illuminated retail display, exhibition stand or large-format SEG lightbox, Backlit Polyester provides a professional fabric graphic designed to look impressive both illuminated and unlit.

Why Choose Backlit Polyester?

Backlit graphics need to do more than simply look good when printed. The material must distribute light effectively across the graphic while retaining strong colours, sharp detail and an even appearance.

Our Backlit Polyester has excellent light transmission, allowing illumination from an LED lightbox to bring your artwork to life.

Its lightweight 165gsm construction makes it ideal for large-format displays, while the dye-sublimation printing process produces vibrant colours that are fixed into the fabric for improved durability.

Perfect for SEG Lightbox Graphics

Backlit Polyester is an excellent choice for SEG – Silicone Edge Graphic – lightbox displays.

SEG graphics are commonly used in retail environments, exhibitions, showrooms, offices and other commercial spaces because the fabric graphic fits neatly into the lightbox frame to create a smooth, professional appearance.

The combination of backlit polyester and LED illumination produces an impressive display with vibrant colours and excellent visual impact.

Dye-Sublimation Printing

Our Backlit Polyester graphics are produced using dye-sublimation printing.

Specialist inks are printed onto the material before undergoing a controlled heating process that fixes the colour into the fabric.

Unlike printing methods where ink sits primarily on the surface, dye sublimation bonds the image with the textile fibres. This produces vibrant colours while making the finished graphic more resistant to scuffing and suitable for careful washing.

It's particularly effective for large-format fabric graphics where colour quality and a professional finish are essential.

Large-Format Backlit Graphics

Our Backlit Polyester is supplied on a 3200mm-wide roll, allowing us to produce impressive large-format lightbox graphics.

The approximate maximum finished graphic width is 3000mm, depending on the finishing method selected.

We can print items up to 3.2 metres (approximately 10ft 6in) on the shortest edge within our standard pricing structure.

If your project requires graphics larger than this, please contact us for a bespoke quotation.

Artwork Requirements

For Backlit Polyester graphics, your artwork must include 50mm bleed.

This additional artwork allows for the extra material required for hems and finishing while also accommodating the natural shrinkage and movement that can occur during printing, heating and cutting.

Supplying the correct bleed helps us produce your finished graphic accurately and ensures important elements of your design aren't positioned too close to the finished edge.

Finishing

Every Backlit Polyester graphic is printed and finished to your individual requirements.

Where sewing is required, we currently use black or white thread. Our experienced sewing team will select the most appropriate colour to complement your graphic and provide the best finished appearance.

Handling Your Backlit Fabric Graphics

Backlit Polyester graphics are supplied rolled rather than folded to help protect the printed surface and maintain the best possible appearance.

The material should be handled carefully because fabric lightbox graphics can crease or bruise if incorrectly handled.

When installing or removing your graphic, avoid unnecessary folding or crushing and store it carefully on a roll when it isn't being used.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is backlit fabric?

Backlit fabric is a specialist printable textile designed to allow light from behind the graphic to pass through the material. When installed in an LED lightbox, the illumination helps create a bright and eye-catching display.

What does SEG mean?

SEG stands for Silicone Edge Graphic. The fabric graphic is finished with a silicone strip around its edge, which fits into a channel within a compatible display frame to create a smooth, tensioned appearance.

Is Backlit Polyester suitable for LED lightboxes?

Yes. Our Backlit Polyester offers excellent light transmission and is specifically suited to illuminated lightboxes and SEG display systems.

Can you print replacement graphics for an existing lightbox?

Yes. We can produce replacement fabric graphics for compatible existing lightbox and SEG display systems. Accurate dimensions and finishing requirements will be needed to ensure the new graphic fits correctly.

How large can you print Backlit Polyester?

The material has a roll width of 3200mm, with an approximate maximum finished graphic width of 3000mm depending on the required finish. Graphics exceeding our standard size limits can be quoted separately.

Why do you need 50mm bleed on my artwork?

We require 50mm bleed to allow sufficient additional material for finishing and to accommodate movement and shrinkage during the printing, heating and cutting processes.

Can Backlit Polyester be washed?

The dye-sublimation process produces a washable printed fabric. Care should always be taken when cleaning and handling large-format graphics to maintain their appearance.

How should I store my lightbox graphic?

We recommend storing Backlit Polyester graphics rolled rather than folded. This helps minimise the risk of creasing or bruising the fabric.
